Long Range Regional Goods Movement Study

Nation’sPort will work closely with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to provide commercial sector input into the soon-to-be initiated Plan for Goods Movement in the wider region. At the request of the Port Authority, Nation’sPort will help identify issues, priorities and strategies that can improve the movement of goods throughout the region, and promote those which appear to provide the best overall benefit to the regional goods movement system. Organized through four committees, this effort looks at the Port and Harbor, Landside Transportation, Land Use and Development, and Labor and Workforce Development. In addition, Nation’sPort will work to identify and promote non-traditional funding mechanisms to help the region overcome the current severe shortages of capital available to public bodies.

This work will focus on maintaining and enhancing the available infrastructure for freight operations, including efficiency, environmental issues, upgrading communications and locational issues.

This study will take about 12 months to complete. The Port Authority awarded this contract in December, 2009.
